Subnet Mask on Private Network

Hello,

Due to some routing issues with other aspects of our network, I am looking to change the subnet mask of the private heartbeat network between two cluster nodes. These are 2008 R2 and 2003 clusters.

There are 2 nodes, with a crossover cable between them. Current network config is:

IP: 192.168.0.11 and .12 (1 for each node)

Mask: 255.0.0.0

Public IPs are on 10.x.x.x /24 network.

I want to change mask on private connections on all nodes to 255.255.255.0

Is there any particular process I should follow, or should this be a simple enough change? Will having the same subnet mask on public and private cause any issues?
