Hi,
Im learning failover clustering on server 2012 R2 and just managed to install failover clustering and file server role for testing purposes.
Nodes are named LABFILE1 and LABFILE2 and they are Hyper-V VMs on my Win10 computer. I have also Starwind virtual SAN server software on WIN10 host machine to provide the shared storage for these nodes.
If I disable LABFILE1 the cluster continues working just fine with node LABFILE2 and shows my node LABFILE1 down.
BUT, if I disable LABFILE2 the cluster stops working completely and the role does not transfer to LABFILE1. Somehow cluster is depending on LABFILE2
Cluster manager shows LABFILE2 as owner node for the file server role.
If I move the role to LABFILE1 and disconnect LABFILE2, then the LABFILE1 disconnects completely of cluster too.
Why the cluster does not work on LABFILE1? I know there is a good explanation for this behaviour which I just yet do not understand. Something to do with quorums, votes, owner nodes?
