I created a two node, hyper-converged deployment with Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V and Storage Spaces Direct on the same cluster. When creating the CSV volumes what does it mean to assign an owner node to each volume? For example, what is the difference between the following setups:
- Create two volumes using the available space for a single server, then in the Failover Cluster Manager assign each volume an “Owner Node” so that each volume is owned by a single server.
- Create one volume using all available space on both servers, then in Failover Cluster Manager simply assign the “Owner Node” to “Best possible node”
My current guess is that in the first setup you might get a faster performance if the servers were configured to use the volume it owned.
