SAS vs SATA in (Clustered ?) Storage Spaces for Hyper-V cluster

Hello,

I'm planning to build some Hyper-V cluster, and i was looking at R2 Storage Spaces with storage tiering for cheap shared storage.

I need near-full HA (for the 0,001%, i will have backup/replica in another datacenter),evolutionary infrastructure (limited upfront investment, continuous upgrade)

Here is what i think could fit my need :

-- Starting configuration (build-up period)

- SAS JBOD with redundant controllers

- 2 cluster nodes, with both Hyper-V and Storage Spaces (i don't think this is supported, but will it work until next investment ?)

-- Target configuration

- same SAS JBOD (maybe two, but much later)

- The 2 original cluster nodes still manage Storage Spaces, but replace Hyper-V by SOFS

- X number of Hyper-V nodes, connected to SOFS

The Big question is :

- Can i use SATA HDD and SSD in my JBOD ? Will an adapter do the job for Sata SSD ? Are "Nearline" SAS drives working differently than SATA drives with an adapter ? or than classical SAS drives ?

Also

- what is the Disk-to-Volume capacity of 2-way-mirror and 3-way-mirror storage spaces ?

- Clustered storage space does only mean that the Windows Storage Space is a cluster role, right ? Nothing related to the disk or jbod enclosures ?

Thanks for giving me a better view on this subjet.
