Server 2016 HV Cluster - Storage migration for virtual machine ' failed with error 'Unspecified error' (0x80004005).

$

Storage is on the same array (different volume) that the server connects to

VM in question has some disks on Volume1 & some on Volume2

So I want to consolidate them all into Volume1

And I am presented with this Unspecified error (I have enough of this totally amatourish Microsoft approach to something that should be a business solution!)

I can disconnect the disk & move it by "hand" & re-attach & it works perfectly fine, but that is stupid to have Live Storage migration & not being able to use it!

How to find a username who moved cluster roles?

Hello dear ALL,

I would like to know a user name who moved (for example, yesterday) all roles within a FO cluster from NodeA to NodeB. Basically, I would like to know if FO was due to hardware-software problem OR it was thanks to someones' hands.

I can check where are roles running now but I can't find any info about WHO did this. Digging through the EventLog did not help me. Maybe I need to switch something in GPO/local gpo?

Thank you very much in advance.

Windows Server 2012-R2 or 2016 Failover cluster manager: multiple online resources

$

I was wondering if anybody experienced and/or resolved the following issue:

Windows Failover cluster Setup:

  • Two Windows 2016 or 2012-R2 server nodes: A and B with current Windows patches.
  • Generic Application DLL resource: implements IsAlive(), LookAlive(), Online() and Offline()
  • Virtual IP address resource: as a dependency of the Generic Application
  • Policy: configured to failover at the first failure
    1. Period for Restarts=15:00
    2. Maximum restarts in the specified period=0
    3. Delay between restarts=0

Issue:

When IsAlive() fails on A primary server, the cluster manager:

  • Does not call Offline() on A (leaving A online)
  • Moves VIP address from A to B
  • Calls Online() on B

As a result, both A and B Application resources are online.

hyperV vs. Cluster startup delay

In hyperv there is a setting for autostart delay of a guest. In Cluster, there is no such option, only priority low, medium, high. This results in some servers starting earlier than they should (e.g. before AD controller is ready or before SQL is ready) and subsequent failure of services that depend on e.g. database. How do I resolve this? How can I control startup of servers properly (that is by time not some obsure priorities) under cluster environment?

The system detected an address conflict for IP address

Hi All,

I've a 2 node Windows Server 2012R2 Failover Cluster, quorum is on a network share. The cluster is up and running since some years.

I've performed a reboot of the passive node and the whole cluster went down, I'm investigating the issue. The first error I find is a failure of the cluster ip address itself:

"

The system detected an address conflict for IP address 172.16.20.69 with the system having network hardware address 00-50-56-B7-4E-50. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.

"

this error has been logged on the passive node and the MAC address with conflicting IP is the MAC address of the public interface of the other node.

Implement Heartbeat Network on Existing Failover Cluster

I need assistance on implementing a heartbeat network on an existing 3 node Failover Cluster.  This is my first time ever doing this and I have never even set up a heartbeat on new Failover Cluster.   So far I have:

- Cabling for the Servers

- Networking for the ports

-Existing NIC's on Server 2012r2 with the networking configured

-DNS Set up in dual configuration order of public network and then private network

How would I go about adding the heartbeat networks to the Failover Cluster and then configuring them to monitor it?

Hi All,

there was a vhd under the external drive was attached in one of our VM. after had a problem with hdd we had to unplug external drive from physical server. Then attached vhd was also detached from the VM. for this reason i can not stat replication back. Because first VM still has this vhd on settings. I would like to duplicate or start replication back for this VM. Export didnt work because attached drive is still on VM settings. Tried to fix or attach back  but failed.

this VM is so important and I want to get system image of it.  Does anyone know if i remove this attached vhd do i get any problem  with VM  ?

Or any idea how i can duplicate this server (tried server backup ,export but failed.)

I want to remove this attached drive

thanks.

Getting 'Validation of Active Directory Failed" error. Also cant add the node by Computer name like "COMP-NAME" in cluster validation windows gives and error that "The Computer COMP-NAME could not be reached"

I have 2 nodes(sql server 2016) and 1 AD/DNS...
Firewall is turned off on all the servers
able to telnet, ping, nslookup on all the servers to all the other servers
they are added to the same domain, failover cluster is installed in the 2 nodes

It throws the error "The Computer COMP-NAME could not be reached" when i try to add by browsing the 'computers' in the domain.. (it recognises the computer name in the domain when i browser) but its not able to add that computer.. it is able to add itself.. ie node-1 can add its own comp.. node two can add its own comp but not eachothers.. I can add both of them by IP or FQDN though... but even then the cluster validation fails with 'Validation of Active Directory'..

Im sure its not the firewall issue, not able to point out the error here.. please help

Hi,
I´m getting this error in eventvwr after reboot.
I have no Hyper V roles installed because I will use the servers as fileserver in failover cluster mode.

Cluster crash when introducing new node in S2D cluster

$

Hi guys,

Now this is the second time i have tried this… our 5 node S2D hyper v cluster have been running without a hickup for over a year now. But this changed when we introduced the new node.

All the nodes are identical. samt patch level (new ish) same firmwares. I join the node into the cluster. and right away i notice that all storage related cmdlets tages several minutes and browsing the clusterstorage shares are slow.

i notice that all storage jobs (add physicaldisk) exits with exception status. and within 30 minutes the node owning the cluster, restarts its cluster service which offline the storagepool and all vm's dies.

im at a loss. i have done several s2d clusters and have never seen this. and everything is looking good prior to joining the new cluster node

Load Balancer fails - what happens then?

$

Hi there,

I have been in conversation with a support rep regarding setting up a second server running WebMarshal web filtering software.

They have suggested that as well as having WebMarshal running on both servers I need to install and configure Network Load Balancing on one of the two servers.

My question is straightforward..

If the server running the load balancer goes off-line for some reason will the second server come into use (keeping in mind there is now no Load Balancer)?

If this doesn't work what should I have in place?

Thanks,

Seán

Linux VM network connectivity

Dear All

We are facing an issue with live migration of VM. The configurations are mentioned below

1. Hyper-V on windows server 2012 R2 latest update

2. VM have red hat 6.5

3. Linux integration service version is 3.8.13 (Redhat builtin)

4. VM is configured with Static MAC address

This all started after kernal update to latest kernal 1 month ago and now it 3.8.13.

As soon as we move the VM to the another node with LM, it loses network connectivity even IP. But after a reboot both IP and Network connectivity works fine.

Windows 2012 R2 CSV Duplicated Mount Points under C:\Clusterstorage

$

Hello,

I've recently had an issue on a Failover CLuster for Hyper-V that uses CSV, the problem was during the addition of new disks to the Failover Cluster that was configured to be CSV (Cluster Shared Volumes).

During the process some disk were removed and added again. But in some nodes of the Cluster, mount point links were not cleared and remained under C:\ClusterStorage

I've tried to manually remove, but this mount-point/link was unable to be deleted, the error was and access denied due  that the file was accesed by some process.

I was able to rename, but not delete. And after rename, I was able to add again the same volume, but the mount point/link had the same identifier.

The only workaround that I've found was perform an 'stop-clusternode' on the affected node, and when the node was stopeed I was able to remove these bad links.

Does anybody knows why this problem could happen? and there is a better workaround to avoid duplicated mount points?

Best Regards

cluster file share are not listed in cluster manager

I have Windows 2012 R2 failover cluster with shared disk.

I have configured file server role along with 2 file shares on this cluster.

both file shares are hosted on shared disk, but after some time showing both file shares in cluster manager and allowing me to change properties etc its now suddenly doesn't show the file shares in cluster manager.

it gives error message that "no file shares are available because the file server role is offline"

but that is not true, file server role shows as online and i can access the file shares remotely using CAP hostname fine, it just doesn't show up in shares section of cluster manager.

I have tried failing over to other node, restarting cluster services on both nodes but no luck.

S2D 2 node cluster

Hello,

We have 2 node S2D cluster with windows server 2019. Between two nodes we have directly connected RDMA storage network (Cluster only) and client-facing network based on LACP teaming on each node (Client And Cluster). We have done failover test and it works: when we power off one node, virtual machines migrates to another host as expected. But when we unplug client facing adapters (two adapters in LACP) on one node, where VM are resides, VM migration fails and after some time Cluster network name and Cluster IP address also failed. When we plug again client facing adapters (two adapters in LACP) to failed node, cluster IP address recover and VM client network works again. So the problem: cluster migration fails after unexpectedly shutdown of client facing network of one node, where VM are resides. Nodes can communicate with each other through Storage network and all nodes are up in Failover Cluster manager. So when client network is down, VM should migrate to another node with working client-facing network. But cluster fails and VM do not migrate. Where we can fix this behaviour? Has anyone met this before?

Failover cluster very slow

Hi everyone,

I took over admin tasks after one of admins left. He was responsible for failover cluster but I heard that users complained a lot. Main issue is that is very very slow. I logged in and check how it looks like.

It is 2 node cluster with witness disk.

Under network it has 2 networks both allowing cluster and client. There is no heartbeat network for cluster communiction. Both nics are in NIC Teaming mode.

Storage - 2 csv are configured and each node is owner of 1.  Storage type is SAN and it is directly attached to the servers.

How to troubleshoot slow performance, what to think about or how to start troubleshooting?

IF you need more info just ask. Thank you all

Preventing Failover windows 2008

We have a Microsoft 2008 cluster of 2 nodes (Windows 2008 OS).  The software installed on is not cluster able.  We wanted the cluster option for maintenance purpose and availability.  We would like to set to up so that if there is a failure it does not failover.  The failover should be done manualy by my team. Can you advise on how I can do this, please.

Remove Cluster from Host computer

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can answer this.

I have a cluster of servers setup for VDI.

To this cluster I added a new server (Maybe this is really just a server Group than Cluster), that not really part of the cluster but pickup cluster information like Remote Desktop Services, hyper-v, ETC.

I want to remove this new server from the cluster (Server) group. The only option I can see it do this is from the New server right clicking on one of the cluster server and selecting "Remove This Server and Remote Servers in This Cluster". I assume this just remove the server from the cluster (Server GRoup) but does not actually affect the cluster. EG, I will not loose my VDI cluster.

Please note I cannot connect to the cluster servers and remove the new server as it does not show up under All Servers. I have search the internet for answer but cannot find the right answer.

Can someone confirm that I can "Remove This Server and Remote Servers in This Cluster" without breaking the Cluster?

Thanks

Craig
