Failover Cluster Manager bug on Server 2019 after .NET 4.8 installed - unable to type more than two characters in to the IP fields

We ran into a nasty bug on Windows Server 2019 and I can't find any KB articles on it. It's really easy to replicate.

1. Install Windows Server 2019 Standard with Desktop Experience from an ISO.

2. Install Failover Cluster Services.

3. Create new cluster, on the 4th screen, add the current server name. This is what it shows:

cluster services working correctly before .NET 4.8 is installed

4. Install .NET 4.8 from an offline installer. (KB4486153) and reboot.

5. After the reboot, go back to the same screen of the same Create Cluster Wizard and now it looks different:

cluster services broken afte.NET 4.8 is installed - unable to put in a 3-digit IP

Now we are unable to type in a 3 digit IP in any of the octet fields. It accepts a maximum of two characters.

Has anyone else encountered this? It should be really easy to reproduce.

Unable to perform cluster validation -- "You do not have administrative privileges on the server ".

I have seen this question posted on the forum many times before, but no solution worked for me.

I have three servers that I would like to configure in a failover cluster, but I cannot perform validation testing. Every time that I try to perform a validation, it gives me an error when adding a server: "You do not have administrative privileges on the server <servername>."

The account that I am using is a domain account, and it is apart of the local Admin, Remote Desktop Users, and Remote Management Users group on each server.

To make sure that the account I was using wasn't corrupt, I deleted the user profile from the Registry and had it recreated, with no change.

None of the servers are a DC.

I shouldn't need to have domain permissions to create computer objects. I've done this in the past without having this ability and it worked fine. I also shouldn't need to be a domain admin. I've done this in the past without being a domain admin, and it worked fine.

I also notice that if I try to remotely manage another server through Server Manager (i.e. trying to launch "Computer Management" under a remote server), i get a popup window with the title "Event Viewer" and the message "Access Denied(5)"

It's as if the servers are not recognizing this domain account as being apart of local admins, even though it's apart of the group on each server.

Hi,

I want to make a 2 node cluster, i have already installed failover clustering feature on both the nodes through server manager.

But when i try to create a cluster, it gives me an error : " the server "node01" does not have failover feature installed. Please use server manager to install this feature"

But feature is already installed.

Can somebody help me with this error. How can i fix it.

Its urgent for me.

enabling iscsi initiator causes vss to hang.

Hello Members,

OS: Windows 2016 Server Std

I got into a strange issue on the Windows cluster 2-node setup.

On one of the node. If the iSCSI initiator service is running and conected, it would hang diskmgmt, vssadmin list writers, chkdsk.,

if i make the Microsoft Iscsi service disabled and rebooted , things would work normally again with diskmgmg, vss,etc until i start the iscsi initiator service.

I am looking for some help to clear iscsi configuration or to start from scratch on iscsi part. suspecting some ghost/persistent  drives may be causing this.

What has been tried.

uninstall/reinstall drivers from devmgmt.

updated OS patches to latest.

evicted and added the node back.

ran the validation tests -> successful.

Thank you

Hello Team,

I am seeing below error.

Help me to correct this.

Enabling encyption for data at rest

$

Hi, so we are having an audit for SOC 2 certification. One of the requirements is that data at rest is encrypted. All the data evolved (that needs to be encrypted), is in a SQL Server web version database, on a virtual machine, in a Windows Hyper-V Cluster, on a Dell SCv2020 storage array. I been looking at ways to meet this requirement. Encryption isn't available on SQL Server Web version, our backup software - Veeam has issues with Hyper-V Encryption Support/Shielding, not sure if BitLocker is a good idea - maybe, and the storage array doesn't seem to have an "encryption" option although I wonder if RAID can be considered encryption as it uses algorithms and removing a disk makes the disk useless (I think I would need some professional reference if I try to make that case). This is only to check the block for data at rest being encrypted. The data is just as secure with or without this encryption.

Does anyone have any ideas that might be of help?

Thanks,

Ken

Failover Cluster SQL

Muchas gracias

Cause for 2012 R2 Cluster service to Stop

The two nodes of a 2012 R2 Cluster lost communication.  The System event log showserror 55 with hundreds of entries back to Nov 2019 and a single error 1230 at the time of the outage.  I am comfortable with what happened and how we recovered from it.  I have been tasked the Root Cause analysis report and it asks 'why' and 'lessons learned' to prevent repeating the failure in the future incidents.

Please advise.

Reporting different disk usage between Windows Explorer and Failover Cluster Manager

We have a 2012 VM Cluster farm that consists of 5 nodes and 8 CSVs. One of the CSVs that has a size of 6TB is reporting a different disk usage.

When I open a Windows Explorer on the corresponding volume, select all folders, right click and choose properties, Windows counts the contents and reports a total usage of 3.9TB.

However, when viewing the same storage from Failover Cluster Manager, the total usage is 5.4TB.

Does anyone know what's happening? This difference causes us miscalculate the usage.

Thanks and regards,

Joseph Liu

VDI Host Fail-over clustering is Down

Hi

Please help us on what are the solution on our issue. Current  cluster is down and unable to up.

Step taken and basic troubleshooting :

1. Stop/disabled “Cluster Services “ in services and reboot the problematic host “VDI node”. Then we enabled and restarted the services.  – Still unable to up the node VDI node " in the cluster.

2. Validate the cluster configuration of host in the failover cluster manager.  –

Error found  saying that :

 A. This because the witness was not accessible. Please ensure that the witness resource is online and available.

 B. Failed to join the cluster because it could not communicate over the network with any other node in the cluster. Verify network connectivity and configuration of any network firewalls.

C. Suspected an issue with communication on UDP port  3343.

3. Pinging vice versa the IP’s from node “VDI node1 to VDI node2” . – Pingable on both host. See the actual current status below.

4. Gathered both  logs from “cluster event Logs and event viewer”

Thanks

We have 3 Node S2D Cluster using Iwarp and QL41262 25GB NIC's.

When I run Get-NetAdapterRdma on any node I get that RDMA is enabled.

KB4534271 Windows 10 1607 Build 14393.3443 Cluster failure

Same issue on 2 separate clusters (both have 2x Server 2016 nodes) after update

Both have failed cluster:

Node '' failed to form a cluster. This was because the witness was not accessible. Please ensure that the witness resource is online and available.

Cluster node '' failed to join the cluster because it could not communicate over the network with any other node in the cluster. Verify network connectivity and configuration of any network firewalls.

There is nothing wrong with witness disk, it is accessible fine, shows in Disk Management as Reserved (exactly as it should)

There are known issues with this update, but none states that it would kill Cluster!

Windows Cluster 2012 R2 - Impersonation Level Error

Hello,

We are receiving an error saying "An unexpected error is keeping you from renaming the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0X80070542: Either a required impersonation level was not provided, or the provided impersonation level is invalid. The error occurs when attempting to rename the folder or file in the Volume folder. However, this only occurs on one of the nodes, depending on which node is the owner.

We experienced this with 2 of our customers. However, one of the customers upgraded the OS from 2012 R2 to 2016, therefore, the error did not occur again.

2012 R2 hangs on 'Forming Cluster' or error 1460 from cluster.exe

I am trying to build a 2 node cluster however it hangs on 'Forming Cluster' in the wizard.  If I try via the cluster.exe command, it gets to '52% Forming Cluster' then errors with 1460 which I believe is a time out.  The two nodes are VM's on HyperV 2012 R2.  I have about 4 other 2 node clusters working successfully.  I have also created this one successfully once, however we had to implement IPSec for communications to other subnets.  Both nodes are in the same subnet however.  Once the IPSec was enabled, the cluster failed.  Since then, the VM's have been completely rebuilt but still unable to form cluster.  Possibly an AD issue? Permissions seem fine, cluster object gets create fine.  Here is the end of the cluster log. Thanks for any ideas!!

OpenService 'RemoteRegistry' failed while adding a server into 2008 cluster failover.

Hi I’m trying to build a W2k8 R2 cluster using HP BL465 G6. Both server builds are identical and both are on identical hardware. When I run the Validate a Configuration Wizard and enter the name of the first server it validates it but when I enter the second server I get the error "OpenService 'RemoteRegistry' failed".

Denying Local Disks from being selected as CSV

Hello,

I recently stood up 2 new host servers in my Hyper-V cluster. Whenever I use Failover Cluster Manager to add disks I've allocated from my SAN, the Add Disk option picks up 4 local disks (from my 2 new hosts) as available storage to add. Now I can just uncheck the boxes and add my SAN space, however, I'd like to remove those as options.

If this helps, the 4 disks are again, across 2 hosts. So 1 SSD drive from each host and 1 RAID 6 2TB Drive from each host.

I can provide more information if needed. Any help with this would be great.

Thanks!
