Kerberos target resolution error after cluster rename

$

I have a two node Windows Server 2012 running Exchange 2013 cluster which went through a name change on the primary cluster resource. The DNS and computer entries came online with the updated name after the update, and no other significant errors are being logged. The server manager console shows an error on the All Servers section for "kerberos target resolution error" for the cluster name.

I have gone through the "repair" process, tried to recreate the active directory objects, failed over back and forth multiple times, tried renaming to a new name, etc. but I continue to have this Kerberos target resolution error in the Server Manager console.

Add-VMHardDiskDrive anomaly

I am building a PowerShell script to build out a SQL cluster comprised of VMs.  I have a 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster with shared FC.  Everything is working fine on it.  But I ran into a strange occurrence with the Add-VMHardDiskDrive cmdlet.  It appears that it only works 'cleanly' on the node that owns the cluster name.  Here is a screen shot.

The first time I issued the command, the cluster name was owned by a different node in the Hyper-V cluster.  The second time I issued the command, the cluster name was owned by the same node on which I was executing the command.  That's the only difference.

The other interesting thing about this is that even though I am receiving the warning and error, the VHDX file is properly added to the VM.  So before I changed the ownership of the cluster group, I removed the VHDX file from the VM so that it would start at the same place on the VM.

I am running this from a Windows 8.1 VM that has all the latest patches and RSAT tools.  The 2012 R2 cluster nodes are all up to date on published patches.  The VMs are all 2012 R2 VMs.

Is this expected behavior?

DHCP Failover strategy

Hi.

I would like to configure a DCHP server failover on Windows 7.

On a part I have a windows 2008 R2 server which currently leases adresses. I recently had a crash of this server.

In order to insure avaibility of dhcp on the next crash, I whish install a DHCP server freeware and configure a script powershell to start dhcp on failover of the first one.

An other tip is to split the pool of leasing. Is it possible to do it with a windows 7 software?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Post Update positioning of Roles (VMs)

Currently I have a Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Failover cluster.

When the cluster aware updating kicks in, everything works fine, except when both nodes have completed their updates, my vms are all situated on the first node that was updated, ie when the second node entered it's updating phase, it migrated all vms.

I'm sure when I was testing last year, the updating process remembered where the roles resided and put them in the correct place post update.  I know I can set Preferred Owners, but wasn't sure whether that was best practice after reading a blog about"potential" issues last year.

So in a nutshell, how can I ensure that the roles are placed correctly post cau?

Hi,

following scenario - Migrating resources from Win2003 Cluster to Win2008 Cluster using Cluster Migration Wizard. Migrators user account added to Administrators group on both Win2003 nodes. Did the same on 5 clusters before with no issues. On last one we are getting following error:

"Failed to connect to the quorum resource"

No matter if we try to connect to Cluster name or Cluster node names.

Unable to find such an error message on the web.

Any Idea?

Thanks.

Unknown Issue with 2012 Failover Cluster

Hello

I have 2 Hosts , HP Proliant DL580 G7 with Server windows server 2012 Installed and updated with the last windows updates and drivers and hardware firmware. And the Hyper-v Role installed.

With FC SAN storage connected.

Each server have 6 NICs and only 2 NICs in each server are connected and the NIC Team is enabled for with 2 NICs.

I installed the Windows Failover Cluster Feature and the validation process passed with no failed results.

I have one 2012 domain controller running 2008 R2 AD Functional Level.

but when i start creating the cluster it stops with the following errors:

Creating a new computer account (object) for 'HVC' in the
domain.

i enabled the diagnostic log on the failover cluster Client in the event log and i got the following errors:

I didn't find any solution or anyone talking about these errors,

Some Guys say that i have to install hotfix 976424 from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2784261

but i cant install it on windows server 2012 its not running.

Your help is appreciated :D

Virtual machine '*' has a single Fibre Channel adapter that is assigned to the virtual SAN. To ensure redundancy, at least two Fibre Channel adapters should be assigned.

Hi Technet,

I am new to Fiber and I have been assigned to check up on this warning we get:

Our setup is Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Hosts connected with FC to a HP 3PAR Storage.

We am using CSV for the system partition of my Guest OS

We have configured Virtual SAN Manager under Hyper-V and it is working.

We have several Guests with FC adapters and assigned volumes and it is working

Our Issue:

When adding another host to the cluster I run the Cluster Validation test and I get this warning (I am allowed to add the node anyway) for all my Guests with FC Adapters:

Virtual machine '*' has a single Fibre Channel adapter that is assigned to the virtual SAN. To ensure redundancy, at least two Fibre Channel adapters should be assigned.

Our Guests is configured with 1 FC Adapter with WWNN and WWPN set in both Address set A & B

My Question:

Do I need to configure 2 FC Adapters for each Guest, instead of using both address sets with 1 FC Adapter?

how to upgrade a 2012 hyper-v cluster environment to a windows server 2012 r2 cluster environment

$

Hi, my question is simple, as i read we cannot in place upgrade our server with hyper-v 2012 in a cluster environment. Ok, I have two physical servers (both are CISCO UCS  Servers), and we are upgrading hardware in both servers (more memory, processors, etc, in fact we are upgrading the version of the servers), and i dont have any other physical server to support the creation of a new cluster tomigrate all my VMs. Then we can destroy the cluster and upgrade one of the server and migrate the VMs to taht server and then migrate the second server and recreate the cluster?, is that option supported by MS?

DNS bad key ID 1196 error for all cluster network resources - 2k3 and v2012 DCs

$

Dear all,

I am experiencing the above error at every refresh for every single cluster network resources (cluster name, replica broker, CAU) on a two-node Hyper-V 2012 cluster. The system works smoothly, all the resources are online and working properly, AD and DNS corresponding entries are correctly populated (cluster CNO has full control on both of them).

I followed many of the procedures described in this forum (reset of the cluster AD entry and cluster name repair from the FOC MMC, Get-ClusterResource "xxxx" | Update-ClusterNetworkNameResource) but I still get the error....

I have three groups of NIC/Hypervisor: Public, iSCSI and Cluster (for live migration/heartbeat), but I set just the public one to register on DNS servers; is that ok?

Another hypothesis: since we still have two physical windows server 2003 DC/DNS in our domain (functional level 2k3), could they be the problem? In a test environment, after adding a 2012 vDC to a P2V 2k3 DC and demoting it afterwards, this error didn't show.

Hope I did manage to explain my issue, please do not hesitate to ask for further information.

Error when adding a disk to Cluster Shared Volumes

$

When adding a disk to Cluster Shared Volumes via Failover Cluster Manager, I get a couple of errors.

Event ID 5145 in System Log:

While adding the disk ('Cluster Disk 1') to Cluster Shared Volumes, setting explicit snapshot diff area association for volume ('\\?\Volume{420e2cc4-4fb4-41be-afb1-65f2ee62457a}\') failed with error 'HrError(0x8004230d)'. The only supported software snapshot diff area association for Cluster Shared Volumes is to self.

Cluster disk resource 'Cluster Disk 1' failed to delete a software snapshot.  The diff area on volume '\\?\Volume{420e2cc4-4fb4-41be-afb1-65f2ee62457a}\' could not be dissociated from volume '\\?\Volume{420e2cc4-4fb4-41be-afb1-65f2ee62457a}\'. This may be caused by active snapshots. Cluster Shared Volumes requires that the software snapshot be located on the same disk.

Any ideas why I'm getting this error?  This disk was previously added as a CSV to different Windows failover cluster, if that matters.  Thanks.

SAN Zoning for a Hyper-V Cluster

$

Best Practice for a FC SAN Zone has always been one Iniator Port and one Target Port per Zone. This insures that communication between the Server and Storage remain "clean" and also makes Troubleshooting easier.

If your lazy and do not feel like making so many Zones, you can also have a Zone with one Iniator Port and multiple Target Ports, if your Storage has multiple Controllers/Ports. Of course, when you have multiple Fabrics, you should not mix the two together.

That being said, I was recently in a MOC Hyper-V + VMM Course and the Instructor said that Microsoft Best Practise for a Hyper-V Cluster is to put one Iniator Port from each Cluster Node (multiple Iniator Ports) with multiple Target Ports all in one Zone. The reason being, he said, was that the Cluster reacted faster in case of a Failover. I have tried to find Microsoft Documentation that Support this statement but have not been able to find any.

Can anyone point me to any Documentation that backs this "Best Practise" Statement up or if you are doing the same thing in your Organisation?

 Thanks in advance!

Multiple Event ID's 4738 and 4724 on new Windows 2012 Hyper V cluster

We just setup a two node Windows 2012 Hyper V cluster.  Everything is working correctly, but in the Security log on both nodes, we're getting Event ID's 4738 and 4724 every 3 minutes for the built in CLIUSR (Failover Cluster Local Identity) that gets created with the cluster (there's a local CLIUSR account on each node).  Because we have an application that parses the security logs and emails us about user account changes, we're getting spammed because of this.  Does anyone know if this is normal behavior for that CLIUSR account?  Any way to suppress this?  On the account properties, "User cannot change password" and "Password never expires" are both checked.  I appreciate any insights people might have.  Thanks

win server 2012 two node cluster, local "cliuser" issue

Hello,

I have a two node Windows Server 2012 STN Cluster with a few SQL instances installed inside it.  Recently in my security event log I see these errors on both nodes:

An attempt was made to reset an account's password.

Subject:
Security ID: SYSTEM
Account Name:<>$
Account Domain:<>
Logon ID: 0x3E7

Target Account:
Security ID: lcoalmachinename\CLIUSR
Account Name: CLIUSR
Account Domain:localmachine name

==

When I look at the local account on both nodes, I see that password is set to never expire, and not be able to be reset.  I am quite confused then, how the above could happen.  Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Cluster network name resource error 1196

$

I have a two-node Hyper-V 2012 Core Server cluster. Initially, the cluster was working fine and I was able to do live migrations with no problem. I first realized that something had gone wrong when I was attempting to move a VM's storage to the Cluster Disk. When I right click on the VM and select Move > Virtual Machine Storage, the bottom left area of the "move storage" screen says "Loading..." forever and never displays the cluster storage. This happened once before and I was able to correct the issue by taking the Server Name resource offline and doing More Actions > Repair. However, if I try a repair now I receive the following error messages:

"There was an error repairing the active directory object for 'Cluster Name'. Error Code: 0x800713b8. The cluster request is not valid for this object".

I have verified that the cluster name Active Directory object (CCSDCluster) still exists and each node as well as itself has full permissions to the object. What I am not certain of is whether the object is still in the same Organizational Unit as it was originally. After the failed repair attempt, I am able to bring the Server Name resource back online successfully.

In addition, I am continually receiving cluster event errors indicating the following:

"Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: The handle is invalid. Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server."

Each of the two nodes has multiple NICs configured. One for management, one for guest OSs (Hyper-V virtual switch is configured to use this NIC and not allow management OS access), and two for iSCSI (for redundancy and multi-path). Live migration is set to only use the management NICs. The management NIC on both nodes is configured with valid DNS servers. The CCSDCluster DNS entry has full permissions for both nodes and itself.

Any suggestions on what to try would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Event ID 1069 Cluster resource 'MSDTC Fails after Mcafee DAT update

My IT department has been struggling with this issue for several months and today it got escalated to me. I wanted to query anybody that has seen this issue that has MSDTC in a W2k8 R1 Cluster who also runs Mcafee VirusScan Enterprixe + ANtiSpyware Enterprise 8.8. Cases are open with both vendors and we have had no success with this issue.

It doesn't happen every day or every time, it's intermittent. THis is what happens. The McAfee Framework Service update the DAT from an enterprise server and within seconds the clustered instance of MSDTC fails and Event ID 1069 is logged in the system event view.

Cluster resource 'MSDTC-servername' in clustered service or application 'servername' failed.

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering
Date: 11/14/2013 9:35:29 AM
Event ID: 1069
Task Category: Resource Control Manager
Level: Error
Keywords:
User: SYSTEM
Computer: servername.domain.company.net
Description:
Cluster resource 'MSDTC-servername' in clustered service or application 'servername' failed.

I have a case open with Microsoft and they had me implement user mode dumps for the MSDTC process. I’m waiting for another occurrence.
