Cluster-Aware Updating information/question

Hi guys,

I've read all posts on this topic however I couldn't find all the answers. We have a specific environment and need to understand this in great detail in order to troubleshoot further and offer to other customers.

  • for self-updating mode a new "computer" object is created inside AD. Does this object has any particular IP address and if it does can this IP address be changed to some other static IP
  • I know what is the purpose of this object (to coordinate updating) but what is the purpose of the object in terms of it's IP? As our firewall might also be blocking this
  • I know how to configure all nodes and object with GP to use WSUS... however can someone please clarify this ? Is the following solution correct: all nodes + CAU object in same OU, to all applied same GP policy for WSUS and selected to NOT automatically download or install updates

Also I've set up CAU in two or three different environments (with 2012 and 2012 R2 serves) and it worked as a charm. However in one particular environment (ours) it doesn't work as expected. Cluster updating readiness is without errors, only one warning for proxy but can be ignored, however when I try to apply updates to the culster following happens.

  1. A Self-Updating Run is being scheduled to take place immediately.
  2. (Warning) The Updating Run has been triggered, but it has not yet started and might take a long time or might fail. You can use Get-CauRun to monitor an Updating Run in progress (checked and nothing in progress)
  3. Getting cluster information... (stuck here and can stay for hours, days...)

Can't find anything on the net or forums, there is nothing in event log.

Thanks for help,

G
