Windows Server 2012 R2 - Configure Redundant Servers

Hello all,

I am setting up two servers for a business, and trying to set them up so that in the event of server01 failing, server02 will take over all requests for the service.  I've tried using failover clustering, but we were hoping we could use the storage we have in the servers (we installed 2 3TB hard drives in each, and mirrored them), and failover clustering requires an external storage center.

The two servers are running Windows 2012 R2.  Initially, Essentials was installed on them, but they have since had product keys for Standard activated, providing the features of Standard on an Essentials build.

Also note, that the service being provided is not a standard Windows service, but an application.  It should also be noted, that we are not interested in the use of virtual machines of any kind (no Hyper-V, VMWare, or Virtual Box).  The company currently uses older servers running XenServer, and we have had issues with them.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
