Cluster Computing in a Windows Environment Without HPC.

I would like to see if there was any way to set up a computer cluster with some old windows 7 laptops without HPC. I have seen Beowulf clusters with raspberry pi's with one head node that manages the devices connected to it and the display with multiple slave nodes attached to it that just do tasks distributed to them. I was wondering if I could do the same (sort of) simply with three old Windows 7 laptops without having to remove an OS and put in HPC. I have them all currently connected to a switch but I wanted to see if I could make one the head node that would distribute these tasks among the other three computers and have just the head node as the usable computer. I have looked up several wikis and forums and most seem to confuse me on their methods. Any help (with links) would be greatly appreciated.
